for STABLE LEADERSHIP in uncertain times

ABOUT TREVOR

Just 18 short months ago, following the resignation of my predecessor, NAPE members elected me as Secretary-Treasurer.

A lot has happened it that short period.

Your union successfully negotiated an extension to public sector contracts, protecting the no-layoff clause and securing a wage increase, when nobody thought it could be done.

We’ve stood up for our members during the current pandemic – fighting to protect your rights and to keep you safe.

And through it all, I’m pleased to say NAPE is in the best financial shape in our history. At the same time, we’ve reinvested in our membership through new and improved initiatives and resources – with more to come.

I have been a union activist since 1995, serving as a shop steward, Local president, member of the LX negotiating team, and as Region 6 board member.

From 2008 until my election as Secretary-Treasurer in 2019, I was a member of NAPE’s labour relations staff. In that role, I represented CNA Faculty, CNA Support Staff, Corrections, General Service, Home Care, Hospital Support, Lab / X-Ray, RNUNL Staff, Waterford Hospital, and Workplace NL. I also served as Chief Negotiator for Hospital Support Staff (NAPE’s largest bargaining unit), Home Care, Workplace NL, Caregivers / Blue Sky, CNA Faculty, CNA Support Staff, and RNUNL Staff.

I’m no stranger to leadership. In fact, I was elected President of my professional association at both the provincial and national levels. I was also chosen to take part in the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference, which aims to develop leadership abilities among young leaders likely to hold high-level positions.

I have a demonstrated commitment to educating NAPE activists having developed and delivered union courses, both as a volunteer and as a staff member, for twenty years.

For the last 18 months, I have been responsible for overseeing the work of our highly competent accounting staff. But as the union’s second elected full-time leader, I have worked side-by-side with our President on some of the most important labour relations issues NAPE has ever faced.

NAPE needs a Secretary-Treasurer who knows the union inside and out. Someone who understands the negotiations process and other important work of the union.

I believe I am that person.

Now more than ever, NAPE members need stable leadership in these uncertain times. A vote for Trevor King is a vote for that stable leadership.
